Angina What we need to know

General Information

Angina (tonsillitis, tonsillo-pharyngitis) is an acute inflammatory disease of the throat and tonsils. After viruses, the most common cause of angina is group A β-hemolytic streptococcus.

Exposure is carried out by air-droplet and contact, using the patient's personal belongings. The frequency of infection is especially high in children between 5 and 15 years of age and in immunocompromised people.

Symptoms

• Severe sore throat and dryness
• Difficulty swallowing
• Fever
• Headache and abdominal pain
• Ingratitude
• Swelling and hyperemia of tonsils
• Purulent plaques on the tonsils
• Enlargement and tenderness of the neck and submandibular lymph nodes

Diagnosis

The gold standard for the diagnostics of streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis is the rapid streptococcal test. The material is taken from the yard. Diagnosis time is 15-30 minutes. If necessary, additional studies are conducted to assess the severity of the infectious process and the general condition.

Treatment

Treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis includes antibiotic therapy. The group of antibiotics, its dosage and duration of treatment are determined by the attending physician.
