General Information

Salicylates are chemicals that are produced in the liver as a result of the conversion of medications containing salicylic acid. Medications containing salicylic acid (such as aspirin) are used to treat inflammation, fever, and pain. Salicylate metabolites (salicylates) are broken down in the liver and excreted in the urine.

The rate of excretion of salicylates from the body is individual and depends on: the functional state of the liver, the level of hydration in the body, interactions with other medications, etc.
