Respiratory syncytial virus IgA

General Information

Respiratory syncytial virus is one of the most common causes of respiratory tract inflammation. It mainly affects children, but it can also occur in adults. It causes inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. In rare cases, it can also cause inflammation of the lower respiratory tract in children - bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and respiratory failure.

The virus is spread by airborne droplets. The incubation period is on average 2-8 days and its duration depends on the age of the patient. After penetrating the mucous membranes, it begins to multiply in the ciliated epithelial cells of the mucous membranes.

The presence of IgA antibodies to respiratory syncytial virus indicates an active infectious process, whether acute, chronic, or reinfection.

The presence of IgG antibodies to respiratory syncytial virus indicates a past viral infection.
