Phencyclidine is a hallucinogen that was used as an anesthetic in the 20s. It will be withdrawn from use due to the patient's hallucinations and delirium (alteration of consciousness).
Phencyclidine exists in different forms: in the form of white powder, capsules, tablets, which are taken orally, in an injectable form, and by smoke inhalation.
The effect of phencyclidine depends on the form and dose of the medicine taken. In small doses, it acts as a stimulant of the central nervous system, which accelerates physiological processes in the body. Its effects range from depression to euphoria, causing aggressive moods and hallucinations and behavioral changes.
Phencyclidine use causes disorientation in time and space, as well as in oneself. It increases heart rate, blood pressure, causes facial erythema (redness), sweating, dizziness, and paresthesias. In large doses, it causes drowsiness, seizures, and coma. Death occurs from cardiac or respiratory failure or cerebral hemorrhage.
Phencyclidine can be detected in urine within 4-6 hours after the first use. Its traces remain in the urine for 7-14 days.
