Rapid Test for HIV (HIV)

It is intended only for professional in vitro diagnostics, in a laboratory center. The test has: sensitivity - 100% and specificity - 98,5%.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Is the etiological agent of human immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It is a retrovirus that has the ability to infect and destroy Helper T lymphocytes.

There are two types of HIV (HIV-1 and HIV-2), which differ from each other by geographical area and in turn have subtypes: HIV-1 has two - M and O - subtype.

HIV is transmitted through contaminated blood and blood products, through sexual contact, and from an infected mother to her baby before and after birth. The main risk groups are: homosexuals, hemophiliacs, blood recipients, intravenous drug users and medical staff.

The production of anti-HIV / anti-HIV antibodies is noticeable in 1-2 weeks after infection and their persistence continues throughout life.

When should we take a quick test for HIV?

The test is performed when HIV infection is suspected.

In case of the following symptoms:

• Sudden weight loss;
• Night sweats or fever;
• Extreme fatigue;
• Enlarged lymph nodes;
• White spots in the mouth or throat;
• Current (chronic) diarrhea;
• ევnevmonia;
• Reddish spots on the skin or mouth;
• Depression.

The CDC recommends HIV testing for the following groups:

• People who have had unprotected sex with multiple partners;
• Intravenous drug users or people who share their injection equipment with others;
• People who have been diagnosed with hepatitis, tuberculosis or a sexually transmitted infection;
• People who have had unprotected sex with a partner with any of the risk factors listed above;
• When planning a pregnancy or pregnancy.

How to prepare for the test?

No special preparation is required for the test.

Possible interpretation of the results

• Non-reactive result Indicates the absence of detectable antibodies to HIV-1 or HIV-2. However a non-reactive result does not rule out the possibility of exposure to the virus or infection.
• A non-reactive result can be detected if the number of antibodies is below the detection limit of the analysis, or there is a stage of the disease during which no antibodies are detected in the body.
• If symptoms persist, despite a negative test result, it is recommended to repeat the test in a few days or use other research methods.
• The results obtained from this test should be interpreted only in conjunction with other diagnostic procedures based on the clinical picture.
• Positive result Means that antibodies to HIV have been detected and you may have HIV infection
• In case of suspicion of early infection, DNA / RNA testing of HIV-1 / HIV-2 is recommended by PCR, based on the patient's clinical and epidemiological indications.
