Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) - immunofluorescence IFA

Antibodies developed against nuclear antigens – antinuclear antibodies – are characteristic of many systemic autoimmune organ-specific inflammatory diseases.

Systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases are characterized by elevated levels of autoantibodies produced against intracellular proteins and nucleic acids (DNA, RNA). These are called autoantibodies Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA), Because they are directed mainly against nuclear antigens.

Indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) for the detection of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) provides better results than the standard semiquantitative method:

• Has higher sensitivity, allowing for the detection of more antibody patterns
• Allows for a more detailed study of the cell nucleus

The indirect immunofluorescence method allows the detection of antinuclear antibodies at all stages of cell division (prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase).

Research material – Venous blood

98% of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are positive for antinuclear antibodies (ANA) by immunofluorescence. However, there are also “ANA-negative” patients.
