Antibodies to steroid-21-hydroxylase

General Information

Steroid-21-hydroxylase autoantibodies are associated with autoimmune conditions, primarily Addison's disease.

Addison's disease is a rare, autoimmune pathology that causes a decrease in the synthesis of the hormones cortisol and aldosterone by the adrenal glands and the development of a corresponding symptom complex. These symptoms are:

• common weakness
• Pressure drop
• Decreased muscle tone
• weight loss

Determination of steroid-21-hydroxylase autoantibodies is a necessary test for diagnosing autoimmune damage and functional insufficiency of the adrenal gland.

When is the survey conducted?

• To detect adrenal insufficiency
• For screening for autoimmune damage to the adrenal gland

Material for examination: Venous blood

Interpretation of results

Autoantibodies to steroid-21-hydroxylase are not detected within the normal range.

The study is qualitative. A positive result indicates the presence of steroid-21-hydroxylase autoantibodies and is almost always associated with Addison's disease.
