A pancreatic amylase test is a test that measures the level of an enzyme produced by the pancreas, amylase, in the blood. Amylase is an enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates. The test is used to diagnose pancreatitis and gallstone disease.

When is the survey conducted?

The study is conducted to diagnose and monitor diseases associated with acute or chronic damage to the pancreas:

• Pancreatitis
• Pancreatic cancer
• Gallstone disease
• Alcoholic damage to the pancreas
• Cystic fibrosis
• Eating disorders
• Pancreatic infections

The study is performed on an empty stomach, 8-12 hours after the last meal. Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited for 24 hours before the sample is taken. Drugs such as aspirin and corticosteroids affect the results, so the doctor should be informed about all medications you are taking.
