General Information

Molds are a type of fungus that grows in buildings, on food, and in any environment with high humidity.

An allergic reaction to mold develops in response to inhalation of fungal spores and cells, ingestion with food, or skin contact. At this time, the immune system begins to produce specific immunoglobulins.

The mold allergen test tests for specific IgE antibodies to the following molds:

• Penicillium notatum;
• Cladosporium herbarum;
• Aspergillus fumigatus;
• Alternaria alternata.
