Endomysium is the inner connective tissue sheath of the smooth muscle fibers of the gastrointestinal tract, which separates the muscle fibers from each other. Antibodies against its proteins are produced during celiac disease, during immune inflammation in the tissue of the intestinal wall, so the determination of endomysium antibodies is an important diagnostic criterion for celiac disease.

The detection of endomysial IgG antibodies in the serum confirms the diagnostics of celiac disease, although additional studies may be necessary.

When should we do the research?

• Recurrent abdominal pain and bloating

• during chronic diarrhea

• during constipation

• In intestinal flatulence

• while losing weight

• In case of frequent stomatitis

• Expressed in general general weakness

• during anemia

• During depression and other mood swings

• In the presence of rashes and itching on the skin

• Bone and joint pain

Symptoms in children may also include:

• Vomiting

• Irritability

• growth retardation

• weight loss

• Damage to tooth enamel

Sometimes there is a need for additional studies, such as:

• Determination of tissue transglutaminase antibodies

• Antibodies to deaminated gliadin peptidase

• General blood test

• Determination of cholesterol

• Thyroid functions

Sometimes a total IgA determination is needed to detect its deficiency. In general IgA deficiency, the endomysial antibody test is false negative and other tests are needed to confirm celiac disease.

How is the test conducted?

A venous blood sample is used

Special preparation

3-4 weeks before the research, the patient should start taking gluten-containing products, otherwise the antibody test will be ineffective.
