CA 72-4 (carcinoma antigen) is a tumor marker used in the monitoring of gastrointestinal and gynecological tumors. It is particularly important in the evaluation of gastric cancer and carcinomas of the cervix/uterine body.
It is a first-line marker for monitoring the treatment and progression of gastric tumors (along with CEA and CA 19-9).
A secondary marker in the monitoring process of mucinous ovarian tumors.

Treatment with high doses of biotin (>5 mg/day) affects marker values. Therefore, it is advisable to collect the sample at least 8 hours after the last dose of biotin.
