Examination of the thyroid gland
Thyroid studies are used to assess the functional state of the thyroid gland and to determine the cause of health problems such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped gland in the anterior part of the neck that produces two hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Thyroid hormones control how the body uses energy, so they affect the functioning of almost every organ. Tests are used to diagnose diseases such as Graves' disease, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, etc.
