Therapeutic drug monitoring tests – These measure the amount of a certain medication in your blood (or urine). The purpose of the test is to make sure that the amount of medication you are taking is safe and effective. Most medications can be dosed without special testing, but for some types of medications, it can be difficult to determine the dose that will provide enough of the medication in your body to treat your condition without causing dangerous side effects.
