Approximately 3% of breast cancer cases and 10% of ovarian cancer cases are caused by mutations in the BRCA genes.
BRCA1 and BRCA2 are tumor suppressor genes whose mutations have been found in hereditary gynecological cancers.
The PreSENTIA BRCA1 / BRCA2 Hereditary Cancer Panel examines a range of mutations in these genes that have the potential to cause breast and ovarian cancer in the future.
If at least one of the following criteria is met, it is necessary to conduct a study:
– Family history of cancers associated with the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes (most commonly breast and ovarian cancers)
– Breast cancer diagnosed at a young age (<50 years of age)
– Co-existence of breast and ovarian cancer
