Genetic screening for lactose intolerance

Lactose (milk sugar) intolerance is the result of a genetic defect in the enzyme lactase, which breaks it down, caused by mutations in the genes that synthesize the enzyme (LCT).
The Synevo Laboratory offers a basic genetic test for lactose intolerance, which uses sequencing to examine the C-13907-G single nucleotide polymorphism in the regulatory region of the LCT gene.
This region of the LCT gene is associated with the functional activity of the enzyme lactase.
