The new strain EG.5 or "ERIS" is a sub-variant of Omicron, like it spreads quickly and is characterized by Omicron-like symptoms: cough, temperature, headache, throat and muscle pain, general weakness. Changes in smell and taste are also possible.
The World Health Organization reports the new strain in 50 countries, including the UK, USA and China. According to the organization, the strain poses an equal risk to human health on a global scale, along with other topical strains. However, it has a high ability to spread, so residents are advised to limit close contacts in crowded places.
