It is a viral infection, most often caused by the Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), and occurs most often in adolescents and young adults. Symptoms usually last 2–4 weeks, although fatigue may persist for several months.
Infectious mononucleosis is a disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, which is easily spread by saliva and gives a characteristic clinical and laboratory picture.

 

The spread of the disease is facilitated by sharing food, personal hygiene items, kissing and others.
