Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) | What we need to know

Spring and summer are active periods of seasonal allergies. Pollen and seeds of plants are actively spread by the wind, which is followed by an acute reaction of the immune system of some people and the formation of corresponding symptoms.

Allergic rhinitis is the most common of seasonal allergies. It is also called hay fever in another way. The name comes from the season of haymaking. Historically, based on observations, people concluded that this activity was associated with the development of allergic symptoms.

Winter is a less active season for allergies, although sometimes allergic rhinitis lasts the whole year. The cause of the disease may be dust from indoor plants, pet fur, molds and others.

Symptoms

  • sneezing
  • Nasal congestion or runny nose
  • Itching and tearing of the eyes
  • Itching of the external auditory canal, skin, oral and/or nasal mucosa
  • ear piercing
  • Congestion in the nose

Sometimes it also develops:

  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing
  • headache

In people who suffer from asthma, seasonal allergies make the condition even worse and even provoke asthma attacks.

Mechanism of allergic rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis develops when the immune system begins to fight against allergens in the air. Histamines and other mediators are released into the blood. An immune inflammatory reaction begins in the tissues, followed by the development of corresponding symptoms.

Diagnosis

Diagnosing seasonal allergies is not difficult. If the allergic reaction develops at the same time of the year - it is a seasonal allergy, however, determining which allergen is the leading cause of the disease is not so easy and often requires extensive research on common allergens.

Treatment

The best way to treat allergic rhinitis, like any allergy, is to limit contact with the allergen as much as possible. The doctor makes the decision on the selection of the treatment method.

Synevo offers laboratory tests and allergy panels for respiratory allergens:

Name of the test Category Price CODE Response time (working day) ** Location of the analysis **** Buyhf:tax:product_cat

The time for issuing research results is not absolute, it can change taking into account various factors
