General Information

Amphetamines are stimulants of the central nervous system, which have a chemical and pharmacological relationship with the body's catecholamines - epinephrine and norepinephrine.

These substances are widely used as an appetite suppressant in the treatment of obesity. Also to improve the results of sports and other professional activities.

When taken orally, amphetamines are easily absorbed into the bloodstream. Their metabolism takes place in the liver - through hydroxylation, demethylation (methamphetamine is demethylated to amphetamine), deamination and conjugation. It is excreted from the body by kidneys both as metabolites and unchanged. The extent of excretion of amphetamines in the urine depends on the pH of the urine.

Amphetamines stimulate the central nervous system and cause alertness, appetite suppression, energy surges, euphoria, and feelings of confidence. Mobilization of energy under the influence of amphetamines improves performance, but without energy recovery, the body wears out over time. The risk of exhaustion is high because amphetamines suppress the sensation of hunger, which reduces food intake. Amphetamines cause both physical and psychological dependence.

Overdose causes anorexia, insomnia, psychomotor agitation, anxiety, increased blood pressure and arrhythmias.
